Since June 2023, only registered Safe Isolation Providers (SIPs) can legally install isolator switches and perform meter de-energisation/re-energisation for safe electrical work. To qualify as a SIP, a provider must be an accredited Meter Equipment Manager (MEM) under the Retail Energy Code.
The DCP 394 regulation allows anyone needing isolation work to contract directly with any accredited MEM registered as a SIP, rather than being restricted to the MEM assigned by the tenant’s energy supplier. This change simplifies the process for local authorities and landlords, enabling them to manage isolations efficiently across multiple properties with different utility providers.
